JOB DESCRIPTION.
Second Baptist School is currently seeking a part-time BAND DIRECTOR for middle and upper school for the 2024-2025 school year.
- Position Title: Band Director
- Work Calendar: Ten Months (August - May)
JOB SUMMARY.
The BAND DIRECTOR at Second Baptist School should have an eagerness to expand and further develop the band program. In addition to teaching band classes, the band director should be prepared to offer leadership and support in various ways, including but not limited to directing middle and upper school bands during concerts and athletic events scheduled throughout the school year, supporting students as they prepare for and participate in musical competitions, and conducting the orchestra during school musical performances. Experience in musical theater orchestra direction is preferred.

CLASSROOM TEACHER JOB SUMMARY.
A Second Baptist School teacher must be able to plan, organize and implement an appropriate instructional program in a secondary classroom that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their potential. Essential functions of the job include but are not limited to the following:
- Prepare, plan, and execute for evening concerts throughout the year.
- Maintain and plan for current equipment inventory and identify potential equipment upgrades for the instrumental music department.
- Participate in extracurricular activities that include leading the band during pep rallies, sporting events, and overnight travel to state and local competitions.
- Participate in the upper school musical as a conductor or instrumentalist as per the Director of Art’s request.
- Plan, prepare and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials that facilitate active learning.
- Develop schemes of work, lesson plans and tests in accordance with established procedures.
- Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment.
- Use relevant technology to support and differentiate instruction.
- Maintain discipline in accordance with the rules and disciplinary systems of Second Baptist School.
- Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students and use information to adjust teaching strategies.
- Observe and evaluate student performance and development to provide appropriate feedback and prepare required reports on students and activities.
- Actively participate in school departmental and parent meetings.
- Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities to students, colleagues and parents.
- Provide a variety of learning materials and resources for use in educational activities.
- Assign and grade class work, homework, tests and assignments.
- Obtain information for parents when requested, promptly return phone calls and answer emails.
- Participate in appropriate professional activities.
- Other duties as assigned.
Ideal candidates should have at least three or more years of teaching experience and/or hold a teacher certification from a state agency or school accreditation agency.
An advanced degree, independent school teaching, and prior knowledge of Second Baptist Church and School is considered a plus.
